POOR BABY KENLEY!!!

Happy 9 months!

A very LONG four day hospital stay, lots of nurses dressed in yellow gowns & masks, sleepless nights, lots of tests, visitors & pokes!

After having a cold & her top tow teeth coming in - she topped it off with waking up with a big fever. The fever didn't fully respond with Tylenol & Motrin. All she could do was lay on Daddy's shoulder all day long. She didn't have the energy to lift her head up. She was lifeless! Kind of scary to see from a baby who is typically so hyper & active. She didn't even care who held her! The next day (Thursday 4/7) she woke & threw up several times. So we decided it was time to take her to the Dr's. At the office they ran several tests that all came up negative. The Dr put it best when he said that she has passed all of the tests except the "eyeball test". He told us that we needed to go over to the hospital so they could run some more tests. We walked over to the hospital to get checked in. They poked her feet & hands three different times to get an IV (which only lasted 24 hrs then had to get a new one - which took 2 more pokes)! All the nurses were so certain that once we got some fluids in her she would bounce back - then we could go home! Well after the first 24 hrs we were still there with a sick little girl! However, we did find out that she had the flu- but like the Dr said, "the flu alone would not be making her this sick - there's something else!" Not too long after that we found out that she had a major e-coli infection - sourced as a urinary tract infection. They think she got this from the diarrhea that she had that went up the wrong end. So they started her on antibiotics.

They were also concerned because she didn't want to eat. And other than very brief moments of her smiling & interacting with us she just layed there. It was kind of a bitter sweet thing - it was fun to snuggle with her but at the same time very hard to see her so sick.

By Sunday we got a good hour of her playing a little & she was eating consistently so they set us free! She was so happy to go home.

Now that we have been home for about a week now, we have finished our round of antibiotics, done our sleep study test (which we found out she has sleep apnea - not acid reflux -now we can take her off her medications for that & focus on this sleep apnea stuff)! She has post hospital anxiety - she wants to be held all of the time & screams bloody murder when you lay her down. After all when she got put down in the hospital this was when mean stuff was done to her.

I had to put a bow on my cute little girl.......everyone kept calling a "buddy" or "little guy". SHE IS A GIRL & A CUTE ONE AT THAT!

Spencer couldn't go in the kids playroom (cuz we were "all infected"), so they brought a couple of things in for him to play with - basketball & cars!

So happy to be home to play with Grandma & favorite toys.

SLEEP STUDY!

Another very long night. She had NOT forgotten everything that had gone on from her last visit. She knew instantly where she was & that she didn't want to be there.

The nurses struggled putting the tube down her nose into her esophagus (to test the pH). No sooner he they got in place she very quickly pulled it out. UGH! I wouldn't like all those tubes all over my face either. The second attempt was more successful - it also helped double & triple tapping the tubes down. In fact she had a rashes on her cheeks from the tape for the next couple of days. It was Momma who had to stay with her again since she still won't take a bottle. Boy! People don't realize what a commitment breastfeeding is!
